Prof. Linden has done a remarkable job of taking newspapers, oral history and written documents to piece togehter the story of Dallas desegregation. For anyone interested in desegregation, urban American history or the history of North Texas this book is a must read. I have learned much from it and have found many insights into my own research in Linden's extensive bibliography. Clear enough for undergraduates but complete enough for any level of scholar.

Nearly all of the shorter philosophical works, published or unpublished, that Husserl produced on the way to the phenomenological breakthrough recorded in his Logical Investigations of 1900-1901. Here one sees Husserl's method emerging step by step, and such crucial substantive conclusions as that concerning the nature of Ideal entities and the status the intentional `relation' and its `objects'. Husserl's literary encounters with many of the leading thinkers of his day illuminates both the context and the content of his thought. Many of the groundbreaking analyses provided in these texts were never again to be given the thorough expositions found in these early writings. Early Writings in the Philosophy of Logic and Mathematics is essential reading for students of Husserl and all those who enquire into the nature of mathematical and logical knowledge.

As a rabid anti rat. choice and game theorist, I was initially skeptical of this book. But I think it introduces fair ideas in laymen's terms. Now I know my enemy just a little bit better, and he smells like peanut butter.

"Freedom Dance" is an extrodinary tale of incredible faith in God, and His awesome power. In it, two Russian dancers who wished to defect to America, asked a couple that they don't even know to help them. The couple hesitated, but felt led by God to help, and so they went out on a limb to help the Russians. This is a very fast-paced, well written TRUE story. I HIGHLY recommend it!

My mother and I both are preplanning our funerals to make it easier for our loved ones when the time comes. This book is a well organized guide that has made a complicated process more understandable and easier to face. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who is going to die or knows someone who is going to die (yes, I mean everyone!)

"Give A Boy A Gun" is the story of two boys, Gary and Brendan, who are intelligent, friendly children. As they enter junior high, a caste system emerges, and they find themselves among the undesirables. This is a result of nothing they have done, but only because they are "different." Gary and Brendan soon become the victims of pranks, teasing and increasingly cruel treatment from the "popular" kids. This treatment is virtually ignored by school staff. As a result, the boys become angrier and more volatile. Soon they are talking about killing their tormentors and a gradual plan unfolds. During their sophomore year on the night of a school dance, Gary and Brendan take the school hostage.

The book contains the voices of Gary and Brendan, their fellow students, friends, teachers and parents. This is done through interviews, e-mail messages and the boys' diaries and suicide notes. Gradually, through these voices, the reader witnesses the events that drive Gary and Brendan to their crime. It is difficult to tell that this is a work of fiction. The plot closely parallels what readers have come to know of the events of the Columbine school shooting.

Nearly every page contains facts on handgun and/or school violence. At the end of the story, Strasser has included key events in the gun control issue as well as a list of school shootings that occurred during the writing of the book.

"Give a Boy a Gun" should be required reading for teachers and other school officials. Parents should read it as well. It would be appropriate for young adults of either sex. The recommendation for adolescents must be guarded due to today's "copycat" incidents, although neither boys' actions are glorified. This is not a book with a happy ending. However, it grimly illustrates the effects of bullying, the junior high/high school caste system and the hesitation of society to accept anyone or anything outside of the dictated norms.

Back in 1997 I met a fed. prisoner while "visiting" someone in ND Stae prisin. Mr Watson was holding the book and told me he had info fingering some mob figures in the page range of the 70's in the book. The following Monday I went to the book store on main street in Minot, ND and asked to order the book. The elderly woman gasped and said "well isn't that odd?" I asked what was odd? She said the previous Friday the publisher bought back every copy in print! A few months later I found my Watsons nuber in Atlanta and called. I spoke with his mother and he had gotton out ant after returning to Atlanta was run over by a car and killed "by accident". The book was reprinted minus his information! Makes you wonder? Get a first printing!
